The Old Vic audience, along with the cast and crew of the political drama, were treated to the Euros quarter-final penalty shootout, in which England beat Switzerland 5-3 on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals.
Corden, 45, Parents Recalling the events of that night, he spoke of their shared experience: “When it went into overtime, we put on costumes,” he said.
“The extra time ended about three minutes before the start of the game. We thought, 'Oh man, this is tough, but we have to get started.'
When Corden and his co-stars heard the crowd start cheering, realized they were all watching a soccer game, and decided to have a watch party with the crowd. “This was not the time to start doing serious theater about serious issues,” the former talk show host said of the atmosphere in the room.
“So me, Anna and Zach came on stage with our iPads and did the commentary. [on the shoot-out]”It was a truly amazing, vibrant, glorious collective experience,” he continued.

In the shared video ParentsOnce the shootout was over, Corden, Maxwell Martin and Hart cheered onstage, with the actors seemingly relieved that England had won a tense shootout, allowing the show to go on.

Corden also said that Saturday night's performance was his second show of the day, following a 2:30 p.m. matinee, so it wasn't difficult to get into character after the shootout.
“But I wonder if the outcome would have been different if we had lost,” he reflected.
The star is known to be a football fan, having declared himself a West Ham United fan on X (formerly Twitter) and also has an investment in Angels City Football Club.
