Jalil “Major” Hackett has signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.
Hackett (8-0, 7 KOs), a Washington, D.C., native, recorded his fifth consecutive defensive inside-the-line victory with a third-round stoppage of Adrian Gutierrez in Houston in December. The win marked the 21-year-old Hackett's seventh TKO in eight wins since turning pro in June 2021 following a stellar amateur career that saw him win 11 national titles and multiple international tournament victories.
“I'm really happy to have signed with the biggest promoter in the industry,” Hackett said. “Eddie and Matchroom have some really exciting plans for my development and I can't wait to get back in the ring.”
The first fight between Hackett and Matchroom is due to be announced next week.
“This is a really good step up. At this stage in my career I'm just wanting to improve but also prove I'm the real deal and this type of test is exactly what I want,” Hackett said.
“Jalil is a fantastic young talent,” Hearn said. “Developing future stars is what Matchroom loves to do and Jalil is a real gem.”
“Many of the top American fighters value training with him in our gym. He has a veteran mind despite his young age, which bodes well for his short and long-term development in the sport. We are really looking forward to getting the next stage of his journey in motion. The training wheels will come off for his first fight against us, which will be announced next week. It will be a great test on a very big stage.”
