The boxing match between former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson and YouTube personality and boxer Jake Paul was postponed in late May after Tyson's ulcer recurred, but has been rescheduled for November.
Key Facts
The fight, originally scheduled for July 20, has been rescheduled to Nov. 15 and will remain at AT&T Stadium near Dallas and will be streamed live worldwide on Netflix, Most Valuable Promotions announced Friday morning.
In a statement also released Friday, Most Valuable Promotions said the rescheduled date allowed both fighters “equal training time” and allowed the bout to take place at AT&T Stadium in the middle of the Dallas Cowboys' season.
In a statement, Tyson said medical experts had found a “recurrence of an ulcer” during recent tests and that he would resume training soon, and that despite the postponement, “no matter when we fight the outcome will be the same – Jake Paul will be knocked out.”
Paul also predicts a knockout in the fight, saying last month that he loves and respects Tyson, “but I've got to beat him.”
Most Valuable Promotions said in a statement Friday that tickets already purchased will be valid for the Nov. 15 performance, and refunds will be accepted until July 8.
Big numbers
80,000 people. That's the capacity of AT&T Stadium, where Tyson and Paul will face off.
Main Background
Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions announced the Tyson vs. Paul match in March and quickly began promoting it as a “once-in-a-lifetime dream match” and potential “most-watched boxing event in modern boxing history.” The 27-year-old Paul gained popularity as a YouTube star before turning professional wrestler in 2020. He was named ESPNRingside's Knockout of the Year in 2021 and won ESPNRingside's Viral Moment of the Year in 2022. The 57-year-old Tyson is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous and best boxers of all time, and the bout is seen as a long-awaited comeback for the boxer, who has not competed since his exhibition bout with Roy Jones in 2020.
Amazing facts
The bout will take place on the same night as Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano, described by Most Valuable Promotions as “the most anticipated rematch in women's boxing history.” The two bouts are being promoted as co-main events, according to ESPN, and at the time of the announcement, Tyson said, “Adding one of the greatest fights in women's boxing history to this unforgettable event is a true gift to the fans.” In 2022, Taylor defeated Serrano in the first women's boxing bout at Madison Square Garden.
