Jake Paul has a message for Mike Tyson.
He earned the win after knocking Mike Perry down three times and scoring a TKO victory over the hand-to-hand fighter in the sixth round.
The interview took place in the ring in front of thousands of fans inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
“Mike, I love you, but this is my sport right now,” Paul said. “You're a legend. You're one of the two most famous boxers of all time — you and Muhammad Ali. It's an honor to be in the ring with you. It's a real honor, you're a legend.
“But I'm going to take your throne, brother.”
Tyson posted a countdown on his X account to his bout with Paul, with 118 days remaining.
Tyson probably breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday night after Perry was knocked down but got up multiple times until the referee finally stopped the bout.
Paul said he received a call from Tyson before the fight with Perry.
“[Tyson]was worried about me taking this fight,” Paul told reporters earlier this week. “He was like, 'What is Jake thinking? This guy Mike Perry is a killer.' So he was worried.”
In fact, Paul claimed that a loss to Perry would have ended his highly anticipated bout with Tyson. Paul agreed to fight Perry after Tyson suffered a recurrence of his ulcer on May 26, causing the Tyson vs. Paul bout to be postponed.
Their match is scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on November 15 and will be broadcast on Netflix.
“And I'm going to get another KO and prove everyone wrong once again,” Paul said. “Everyone said I was a mistake taking this fight, that I was a fool, that I was taking a risk. But that's why I'm here. I'm taking a big risk. I'm putting it all on the line. And that's against anyone, anywhere, anytime.”
