Dana White thinks Jake Paul needs Mike Tyson to draw attention to their fight.
Paul (9 wins, 1 loss), a YouTuber turned professional boxer, will face Tyson (50 wins, 6 losses) on July 20th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
White is not a fan of the matchup, where his close friend Tyson will be 58 years old when he steps into the ring. He mocked Paul for facing an older fighter again.
“I love Mike, but I hate talking about this because he always gets mad when I talk about it,” White said on the Pound 4 Pound podcast. “I'm not happy to see him do something like this. He will be 58 years old when the fight happens. The age difference between the two will be 31 years.
“Jake Paul fought a kid his own age and lost. I just saw this on the internet yesterday. I reposted something that said if he beats Mike Tyson, he'll fight Clint Eastwood next. I did. Clint Eastwood is 93 years old. I don't get it, dude.”
After fighting several notable names in MMA as well as Tommy Fury, Paul's previous two boxing matches were against lesser known opponents in Andre August and Ryan Bolland. This time he will face a boxing legend, and the match will be broadcast live on Netflix for subscribers.
Ms White believes Paul needs the right dance partner to improve his opinion.
“What Jake wants is Jake to make money,” White said. “The people who follow Jake Paul don't buy Jake Paul's fights, so Jake Paul has to fight people who can actually sell pay-per-views.”
