NEWARK, NJ – Jailton Almeida wants to create tourism and take down some bad guys at the same time.
The UFC heavyweight contender is hoping to face Cyril Gane in the UFC comeback bout in Paris in September. Almeida (21-3 MMA, 7-1 AG) UFC) blasted Gane, coming off a quick submission win at UFC 302 on Saturday, saying he wants to be in the fight, but more importantly, wants to be on the card regardless of the opponent.
“I got to see the Statue of Liberty this week, which was exciting, and now I want to see the Eiffel Tower,” Almeida said at the post-fight press conference at UFC 302. “I'm hoping to do a little more sightseeing, and it just so happens that the main event in Paris will be against Cyril Gane. I'd love to fight in Paris either way, and Cyril would be great. If he doesn't want to fight me, I'll fight anyone in Paris.”
If the UFC were to put him against the Frenchman, Almeida would try to submit him. He's not sure if he can do what Jon Jones did, but he's confident that given enough time, he can get the job done before the final bell sounds.
“Every fight is different, but I'll definitely be looking to finish it.”
“I don't know if I can win as quickly as I did against Jon Jones because I don't think Cyril expected that,” Almeida said. “But if it's a five-round fight, I think I can knock him out in the third or fourth round.”
