Taekwondo athlete Jack Woolley will return to the Summer Olympics after winning one of the two guaranteed European spots in the European Qualification Tournament.
Woolley previously represented Ireland at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. He was eliminated in the round of 16 and seemed a bit disappointed. He was one of at least his 186 competitors who participated in the Olympic Games.
Now he has returned to the 58kg weight class and is fighting for a medal podium.
Get into the game off the sidelines
Our weekly playbook is packed with everything from locker room chatter to pressing LGBTQ sports issues.
Woolley has won countless medals on the world stage. This includes silver medals at the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 European Games.
He has had a somewhat difficult path as an out athlete. He came out as bi in a documentary film. He later stated that he regretted coming out.
Shortly after the Tokyo Summer Olympics, he was brutally attacked on the streets of Dublin, which was said at the time to have been probably random.
Like many athletes, Woolley mostly sticks to sports in her social media posts. Therefore, it is unlikely that he will share information about his boyfriend or girlfriend.
Still, we're rooting for Woolly to reach the medal podium in Paris!
