Anthony Joshua may ultimately have to wait until 2025 to get a chance to fight Tyson Fury if he holds the heavyweight title. It's a good idea for Joshua to start making other plans and get Fury out of his head.
Fury's co-promoter Frank Warren points out that Tyson has a rematch clause against IBF, WBA and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which will be fulfilled. I predict that. Fury and Usyk have so much sweet, cold cash on their hands, why don't the losers try to milk it?
If Fury loses both of those fights to Usyk, the fight between Joshua and him will be worthless. Knowing Fury, he would push for a third fight with Usyk and lose that one too, making it pointless for AJ to face him.
Both fighters will win huge prize money in this match, so a rematch clause will apply to the loser. Any step-away deal would be huge to keep Usyk out of the way to allow Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) to fight Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) this year. It will need to become something.
Will Old Anger be able to handle Usyk?
Fury, 35, could lose on May 18th. Because even though he has lost a lot of weight since the postponement, he still looks slow and very old. Her Fury's rapid aging progression cannot be ignored, and we can see that she has aged badly over the past three years.
Losing weight did not increase the Fury's speed or reduce its maneuverability. Unfortunately, the timing of his pound drop wasn't the fountain of youth the aging Fury needed, considering he still resembles a middle-aged man in his mid-50s.
That's Fury's biggest problem. Since his second fight with Deontay Wilder, he appears to have experienced a drastic age acceleration. Fury has partially masked his aging by fighting British journeymen Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte and facing novice Francis Ngannou.
Fury focuses on Usyk
“One of them definitely is!” Warren told Sky Sports. “They're getting huge prize money for this fight.
“I'm sure the loser will have a rematch clause for financial reasons.”
“Next March, if Tyson does what I believe he does and AJ continues to win, I'm sure we'll get a big fight,” Warren told Sky Sports.
