Ames, Iowa – Iowa State University and Head Coach matt fanon The 2024 football schedule was announced Tuesday afternoon. The 2024 schedule highlights seven road contests, plus a program-high 12 home games and home exhibition games.
The Cyclones will play eight non-conference games this year as part of a 19-game schedule, six of which will be played at the Cyclone Soccer Complex. The schedule includes only one exhibition match and is limited to 11 league games.
ISU will face seven teams in 2024 that qualified for the 2023 College Cup (four in nonconference and three in Big 12 play), and BYU reached the semifinals last season.
The 2024 season unofficially begins on August 7th, with the Cyclones hosting Minnesota in Ames for an exhibition contest, marking the third consecutive season that the two teams have met in preseason play.
The season officially begins on Thursday, August 15th with Western Illinois coming to town. This will be the fourth time ISU and WIU have met, and the first since 2013, when the Cyclones won 2-0.
Following the start of the season, Iowa State will remain in CSC for a game against the Creighton Blue Jays on August 18th before departing for its first away game of the season.
ISU's first trip will be short. The team is scheduled to head to Des Moines on Aug. 22 for a date with Drake in the state capital. A week later, on Aug. 29, the Cyclones will visit St. Louis, the first of seven 2023 College Cup participants on the schedule.
The Cyclones will continue to play in the 2023 postseason qualifiers, with their next two games against Memphis (9/1) and Michigan (9/5) facing last season's College Cup participants.
Iowa State will conclude its non-conference schedule in mid-September, with two home games sandwiched between the Big 12 opener.
ISU and Northern Colorado will meet on September 8th before the Cyclones depart for their third road trip of the season, the Kansas opener at Kansas (September 12th). After the game in Lawrence, ISU will return to the Cyclone Sports Complex to conclude a non-conference matchup against in-state foe Iowa on Sept. 15 as part of the Iowa Corn Rhinohawk Series.
The Cyclones will then host UCF in their home conference opener (9/19). The Cyclones will remain in Ames and face Big 12 rival Colorado on Sept. 22 in their first matchup since 2018, when they played as part of a non-conference schedule.
ISU will be back in action next Thursday, heading to Salt Lake City for its first meeting (Sept. 26) against the Utah Utes. The Cyclones complete a two-game road trip to Provo and close out September against the BYU Cougars (9/30).
The Cyclones' October opener will be at home against Kansas State University on the 6th. The team will remain in Ames as Cincinnati makes its first appearance in Ames on Oct. 10.
On its final road trip of the season, Iowa State heads south to take on defending league champions Texas Tech (10/13) and Oklahoma State (10/17).
The conference schedule concludes at the Cyclone Sports Complex with TCU (10/20) and Baylor (10/25) rounding out home competition.
