What many thought was an April Fool's prank a few weeks ago quickly became reality for Iowa State football fans, as the program unveiled new uniforms Wednesday afternoon.
All three new uniform sets have a similar look, with cardinal, white and black base colors, shoulder stripes, a Jack Trice stripe on the upper left shoulder and “Iowa State” written across the upper chest. The helmets all feature the Block I logo with State written above the I, which is Iowa's primary logo.
This is another uniform change for the Cyclones, who have seen a variety of alternate uniforms over the past few seasons, but have not been completely revamped since the 2018 season. Wednesday's release marks the return of shoulder stripes for the first time since 2017. The new uniform also includes the option to use gold pants again.
Previously, the Cyclones' base jerseys were Cardinal with gold numbers, white with Cardinal numbers and golf outline, and an all-black alternative with gray trim. The school also had Jack Trice's uniform. This was the cardinal's basic uniform with gray stripes and tan pants. The helmet was often the most admired of the set, with “Ames” stamped on the side of the helmet.
The Cyclones will debut these new uniforms on August 31st against North Dakota.
