MOUNTAIN VIEW — Intuit has revealed plans to cut hundreds of jobs in the Bay Area, an ominous reminder that the wave of layoffs in the region's tech industry has not yet subsided.
The financial services technology company decided to cut 384 employees at its Mountain View headquarters building on Coast Avenue, according to official documents filed with the state Employment Development Department.
The Intuit cuts bring the number of Bay Area tech worker layoffs past a dire milestone, according to a review and compilation by this news organization of hundreds of WARN notices on file with the state EDD.
According to an assessment of WARN notices, tech companies have announced decisions to cut 45,000 jobs in the Bay Area in 2022, 2023 and so far in 2024. The current wave of layoffs in the tech industry began in early 2022.
Mountain View-based Intuit said the job cuts will begin around Sept. 9 of this year and continue through 2025, according to WARN's letter.
“Affected employees will be notified in writing at least 60 days prior to the date of termination,” Lara Strauss, Intuit's vice president of human resources, wrote in the WARN notice filed with the state EDD. “The termination will be permanent.”
