Alchemy Martial Arts are gearing up to show off their skills at the All Stars Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament in London this weekend.
Beyond the pursuit of victory, Alchemy Martial Arts is a hub for fostering community chemistry and has recently expanded to new premises on Northdown Industrial Estate in Broadstairs.
Alan Mark, black belt instructor and club owner said:
“We have a wide range of instructors, including current world champion Valmir Neto, and offer a diverse mix of classes including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, wrestling, judo, yoga and fitness sessions.
“Alchemy guarantees a welcoming environment for everyone, young and old, from veterans to newcomers.”
Alan, also known as 'Guns', has two children with disabilities and says he runs the club on the principle of non-exclusion.
Additionally, “Teachers tailor their sessions and we provide a customized experience to ensure everyone feels accommodating.
“Sport has the power to transform, especially in mental health. Our mission is to spread positivity in a world clouded by negativity.
“Through martial arts, we aim to uplift, inspire, motivate and help people become their best selves.”
Alan has good reason to be optimistic about his students taking part in the London competition. In past years, the club has sent people who are completely new to the sport here and managed to come back with gold medals.
Club member Heidi explained why she loves participating: “My Brazilian journey started with my son joining a kids class. Then Gunns invited me to the mat and since I stepped on the mat I have never looked back. There was none!”
“I come back again and again mainly because I love it! But equally, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is difficult, both mentally and physically.”
Fellow club member Anna added: When I finished my first class, I wished I had started earlier. It's also great for your mental health.
“It's helped me with my OCD and anxiety, helped me think more outside the box at work, and given me a confidence I didn't have before. And it's helped me with a kind of mental alertness that keeps me sharp. It's a game of chess.”
As part of our community, Alchemy is proud of the sponsorships we have received from Rhino Aluminum Windows and Doors, Apex Exhibitions, and Skybel Communications.
The contest will be held on March 24th, but Alan says this is just another step on his path to serving the community.
