The Olympic Track and Field Trials are just days away, with many promising athletes from the Midwest among the hundreds of athletes competing over the 10 days.
The meet will take place from June 21 to June 30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Athletes will compete in a variety of events including the shot put, hammer throw and 100-meter sprint.
Below are the Illinois players looking to secure a spot on the U.S. team.
Sandy Morris
Morris competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning a silver medal in the pole vault, and this year the 31-year-old Downers Grove native will compete again with a shot at making the Olympic team.
Tori Franklin
Franklin, an Evanston native, is another Olympian who specializes in the triple jump. Franklin, who won the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships, is aiming to compete in the Olympics again this year after competing at age 25.Number He won first place in the triple jump at the Tokyo Olympics.
David Kendziela
Kenjiella is a Mount Prospect native who attended the University of Illinois and is an Olympian who placed 12th in the men's 400m hurdles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Courtney Lindsay
Lindsay, a sprinter from Rock Island, is aiming to make her first Olympic team this year after winning gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2024 World Relays Championships in Nassau.
Zach Ziemek
Returning to the Olympics, Ziemak is once again aiming to make the Olympic team this year after finishing seventh in the decathlon at the 2016 Rio Games and sixth at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
Chase Jackson
A Springfield native, Jackson attended Oklahoma State University where she specialized in shot put. She was a two-time world champion in shot put, placing fifth at the 2021 Olympic Trials and seventh at the 2016 Olympic Trials.
Gabriella Jacobs
Jacobs, a Bloomington native, will attend the University of Missouri and will return to the Olympic Trials in hopes of making the Olympic team after failing to qualify in 2021.
Ariana Callaway
Callaway, a freshman at Northern Illinois University, is a high jumper from Blue Springs, Missouri, and is scheduled to compete in the preliminaries.
Robert Reiking
Liking, a St. Charles native who currently attends the University of Wisconsin-Madison, qualified to compete in the 5,000-meter sprint at the trials.
Emily Grove
Grove, 31, is a pole vaulter from Pontiac who attended the University of South Dakota and competed at the 2016 Olympic Trials.
Jonathan Wells
Wells will compete again at the Olympic Trials after competing at the Tokyo Olympic Trials in 2020. He is a Fox Lake native and attended the University of Illinois.
Sidney Willits
Willits, a Glenview native, attended Iowa State University where she was named the school's Female Athlete of the Year.
Jenelle Rogers
Ball State senior Jenelle Rogers will also be competing in the upcoming trials. Rogers is from Oswego.
Manning Plater
Prater is another athlete returning to the Olympic Trials after failing to qualify in 2021. He is from Rushville and specializes in the throwing events.
Jaden Ulrich
Ulrich, a native of East Alton and now a junior at the University of Louisville, will be heading to Eugene to compete in the preliminaries.
Chloe Lindemann
Lindeman, a Fulton native, is a redshirt senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he will specialize in throwing.
Tori Thomas
Tori Thomas, a junior at the University of Illinois, will be competing in the upcoming preliminaries. The Rock Island native will be competing in the pole vault.
Sophia Beckmond
Beckmon, a freshman at Illinois, along with several other University of Illinois athletes, qualified to compete in the preliminaries again this year.
Tacorea Humphrey
Another Illinois athlete, Humphrey, a junior from Indianapolis, Indiana, will also be competing in the qualifiers.
Tyler Sudduth
Sudduth is another Illinois native taking part in trials this month and is originally from Richton Park.
James Benson
Benson is originally from Charleston, Illinois, and attended the University of Arkansas.
Nathan Richards
Richarts, 29, a Notre Dame graduate and Island Lake native, will compete in 2021 and then return to the Olympic Games for the second time at the Olympic Trials.
Jessica McDowell
McDowell is a junior at the University of Illinois from Normal.
Erin Rees
Reese, a Mount Prospect native, is a graduate of Indiana State University where he specialized in throwing events.
Luke Winder
Winder is a Plainfield native and previously attended Northcentral University.
Zachary Bredford
Bradford, 24, a world championship silver medalist from Bloomington, will be competing for a spot in the preliminaries.
Cam Garrett
Garrett is a junior at the University of Illinois and is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana.
Helen Schlachtenhaufen
The 29-year-old Lake Forest native is a Dartmouth College graduate and a former Ivy League track and field champion.
Eric Holt
Holt is a Hoffman Estates native and Binghamton University graduate who is seeking to make his first Olympic team.
Dylan Jacobs
Jacobs, an Orland Park native, plays for the University of Tennessee and will be participating in the Trials for the first time this year.
Robert Williams
Williams, a senior at the University of Illinois and a Springfield native, is competing in an attempt to make her first Olympic team.
Aidan Ouimet
Ouimet is a Chicago native and a member of the 2024 U.S. heptathlete class.
