The International Boxing Association (IBA) announced on Wednesday that it is analyzing the world sport's highest court's decision to dismiss an appeal against the revocation of Olympic recognition and may take the matter to the Swiss Federal Court.
In June, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to revoke the IBA's recognition, saying it had not completed reforms in governance, finance and ethical issues.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the IBA's appeal on Tuesday.
The IBA said in a press release on Wednesday that considerable progress had been made in the areas mentioned by CAS and that the court and IOC had overlooked broader reforms.
“The IBA will refrain from making any further comments pending a thorough analysis of the CAS ruling by legal experts, which is currently underway to decide whether to appeal to the Swiss Federal Court,” it added.
Last month, rival organization World Boxing announced on behalf of the IBA that it would seek approval from Olympic organizers to keep the sport on the program for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
The IOC welcomed the CAS decision and said it was up to national boxing federations and national Olympic committees (NOCs) to find partner international federations by next year at the latest to keep the sport in the Olympics. .
“For boxing to continue on the Olympic program, like all other Olympic sports, the IOC needs recognized and trusted international federations as partners,” the IOC said in a statement.
The IOC is hosting the boxing competition at this summer's Paris Games, but the Olympic body has repeatedly said it cannot continue.
“The NOCs and national boxing federations hold the future of Olympic boxing in their own hands, and the necessary actions could not be clearer,” the IOC said.
“At present, boxing is not included in the LA28 Olympic sports program. To improve this, the IOC should establish a partner international federation for boxing by early 2025.”
