LAS VEGAS — How do other teams in the NHL view the San Jose Sharks' 2024 draft class?
San Jose Hockey Now reached out to several NHL scouts and league officials outside of the Sharks to get their opinions and assessments of Macklin-Celebrini and other players.
Before we get into their overall ratings (and my grades), let's hear their thoughts on the following players, in draft order: center Serebrini, defenseman Sam Dickinson, winger Igor Chernyshov, defenseman Leo Saline-Walenius, winger Carson Wetsch, goaltender Christian Kirsch, defenseman Colton Roberts, defenseman Nate Miskey and goaltender Yaroslav Korostelyov.
San Jose Sharks director of scouting Chris Morehouse and director of player personnel Scott Fitzgerald also offered their views.
Macklin Celebrini (1st place)
The 6'0″ center, who compares favorably to a Johnathan Toews or Sidney Crosby, has stirred up excitement among Sharks fans the likes of which I've rarely seen since I started covering the team in the 2018-19 season. The 2019 playoffs were the last time Sharks fans were this excited about anything.
“Not a better organization [to join] “It's going to be awesome,” Wetsch said of being selected by the Sharks.
Honestly, I don't think the 18-year-old would have said that if the San Jose Sharks hadn't drafted him. Celebrini is projected to be a franchise player, which makes people believe.
