Nate Diaz and Jorge MasvidaHe's willing to do it again, but not in the Octagon this time. Diaz's UFC contract expires in November 2022, and this time he wants to settle things in a boxing ring. “I feel Diaz is pretty limited compared to what we saw against Jake Paul and that won't change. He's just going to come forward and try to tire you out. That's boxing and I think he'll be just as strong as me. When we fight on July 6th I'll show that I'm a solid student of the game.” “I'm not going to let him off the hook,” Masvidal had to say about his opponent. The longtime UFC rivals will square off on July 6 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. In a 10-round light heavyweight bout, “The Stockton Slugger” will be looking to avenge his loss at UFC 244 in 2019, when he lost the “Baddest Bastard” belt.
Nate Diaz in his final boxing match Jake PaulHe showed great determination, but was overwhelmed by the younger boxer's quicker reflexes, knocking him down in the fifth round and ultimately winning the bout by unanimous decision. Joseph Benjamin Masvidal won by majority decision in 2005. In some ways, this will be a fair fight for both fighters since neither of them have much experience in professional boxing. With some of the biggest names in mixed martial arts vying for power, some may be curious to know the prize money split that made them sign the contracts.

The pay-per-view boxing event between the two mixed martial artists will be co-promoted by Diaz's Real Fight and Masvidal's Gamebred Boxing. Each fighter is guaranteed $500,000, according to Sports Salaries.com. But that's not all.
Who do you think would win a Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal boxing match?
Diaz and Masvidal are expected to make upwards of six figures when they factor in percentage shares of PPV sales, sponsorship revenue and discretionary bonuses. However, the share of PPV revenue has yet to be made public. That said, a significant portion of the fighters' income and the financial success of the event hinges on PPV buys. Case in point: the fight was rescheduled from June 1 to July 6. On the original date, it was scheduled to overlap with the UFC 302 event and the Queensberry vs. Matchroom Boxing 5-on-5 event in Saudi Arabia.
It remains to be seen whether the star power of UFC veterans is enough to convince MMA fans to spend some money watching them compete in the boxing ring.
Diaz vs. Masvidal: UFC 244 overall standings
In 2019, Diaz and Masvidal faced off in the main event of UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden for the inaugural BMF title, resulting in a bloody and hard-fought battle. Masvidal hurt Diaz throughout the bout with powerful combinations, devastating elbows, and dangerous kicks to the head. An elbow from Masvidal in the clinch caused a cut over Diaz's right eye that ultimately proved fatal. The New York State Athletic Commission ringside physician was forced to stop the bout between the third and fourth rounds, awarding Masvidal the victory by TKO.

“Of course, when you run an event you want a decisive and spectacular finish, but that's not always possible.” UFC president Dana White said after the inaugural title fight, “Diaz lost the chance to win the BMF title but received a guaranteed fight prize of $500,000. Same for Masvidal. When you factor in pay-per-view points, the combined earnings for these two fight specialists should have been much higher.”
In his next bout, Diaz will have a chance to exact revenge for what happened at UFC 244. Hopefully, this time it will be decided in a boxing ring with a clear winner and an undisputed outcome.
Jorge Masvidal remains under contract with UFC after signing a contract extension with the company in 2022, but is allowed to compete in boxing matches. After his loss to Gilbert Burns, he announced his retirement, but has not ruled out a possible return to UFC. Meanwhile, Diaz was also looking to return to the biggest mixed martial arts promotion at the UFC 300 event, but the “Stockton Slugger” was unable to reach a deal with Dana White.
