Now that the Georgia Bulldogs' official SEC schedule has been released, what does it mean for their future?
Kirby Smart knows who to start game planning for when the 2025 season begins. Their SEC schedule was released a few days ago, giving us an early look at the future of Georgia football in 2025 and Georgia's future schedule.
As you may have noticed by now, the Dawgs' opponents in 2025 are the same as in the 2024 season, but the stadium where the game will be held has changed. Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss and Kentucky each have trips to Between the Hedges scheduled, while Georgia will go to their respective teams in 2024. The teams playing in Athens this year are Auburn, Mississippi State and Tennessee, with the Dawgs going to each of them. In 2025.
In late October 2023, Dawgs Daily reported that the world's largest outdoor cocktail party was likely staying in Jacksonville, Florida. This schedule announcement confirms those reports. One area of uncertainty regarding Georgia football's outlook for 2026 and beyond is who its conference opponents will be.
For the second straight year, Georgia will not play five SEC teams: Oklahoma, LSU, South Carolina, Missouri and Vanderbilt. These teams will likely be added to the 2026 and 2027 schedules. As the SEC stands now, the Bulldogs would need three more conference games to fill their eight-game berth. Those teams would probably be Auburn, Florida, and maybe Alabama.
Another uncertainty is whether the annual Georgia-Florida rivalry will remain in Jacksonville until 2026 or even 2025, as the Jacksonville Jaguars have scheduled stadium renovations. There is still a possibility that the SeC will change the eight-game conference game format to a nine-game format.
Either way, Georgia has to focus on the moment: spring practice. The ultimate goal for the Dawgs this spring is to figure out their depth at the positions they need and get through the spring healthy.
