Simone Biles and the U.S. women's gymnastics team will be the center of attention in qualifying at the Bercy Arena on Sunday. Biles is seeking her fifth Olympic gold medal and seventh all-around gold medal. She won two medals in Tokyo despite withdrawing from the all-around to focus on her mental health.
Competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. CEST (3:30 a.m. ET) in Subdivision 1. Biles and company will compete in Subdivision 2, which will begin at 11:40 a.m. in Paris. They will start on the balance beam.
Biles will anchor three of the four events for the U.S. on Sunday – balance beam, floor exercise and vault. She will be second-to-last on the uneven bars. Reigning all-around champion Sunisa Lee and Tokyo silver medalist Jordan Chiles will also compete in all four events in the preliminaries. The top eight qualifiers advance to the team finals on Tuesday.
The top 24 qualifiers in the individual all-around will advance to Thursday's final, with each country limited to two athletes.
Biles missed Friday's opening ceremony to rest and prepare for Sunday's qualifying rounds.

A new skill named after Biles?
Biles is hoping to add more moves to the list of those named after her in gymnastics scoring rules.
The American superstar submitted an original uneven bars move to the International Gymnastics Federation on Friday, and if Biles landed it in the women's qualifying round on Sunday, it would become the sixth move with her name inscribed on the sport's code.
Biles already has two moves named after her on the vault (including the Yurchenko double pike) and floor exercise, and one on the balance beam, and is aiming to become the only active gymnast to have moves named after her in all four events.
Biles' submitted move involves circling forward around the bar before turning a handstand into a 540-degree pirouette, which USA Gymnastics demonstrated at the X on Friday.
