Woori Taekwondo & Hapkido Academy has opened its doors to Homewood residents at its state-of-the-art facility located at 18029 Dixie Highway.
Academy founder and grandmaster Kwan Pil Kim and local residents, including Mayor Richard Hohfeld, celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new business on Friday, April 5th.
The academy has been open to the public since February 22nd. Homewood Village officials brought the iconic blue jumbo scissors to the official celebration and participated in a self-defense demonstration.
Mr. Kim has qualifications including a 7th degree black belt in Taekwondo and a 7th degree Hapkido, and has opened four additional stores in the Chicagoland area. Although he wanted to continue teaching and teaching martial arts, he admitted that “building a community is a good idea.”
After receiving a personalized plaque from Secretary of State Jesse White recognizing his commitment to community and youth education, Mr. This is our proudest achievement.”
Kim's extensive experience has created several community-driven opportunities including fundraising events, parades, and conferences.
Hohfeld took part in the action during the ceremony and received a practical self-defense tutorial with village chief Napoleon Haney and others.
“We've added another great business to our city,” Hohfeld said.
“This location has four to five instructors and a lot of class time slots, so it's very convenient for families,” Kim said.
The academy offers classes for students of all levels from the age of four. Among them are beginner classes for children aged 4 to 5 years, children's classes (6 to 12 years old), family classes, and classes for teens and adults.
If you would like to learn more about our classes, we encourage you to join the Academy's “Trial Program” before signing up to take your first three classes for free. This also gives the instructor an opportunity to see which class is best for each individual.
“Our goal is to support and inspire people to grow and be the best they can be, both mentally and physically,” Kim said.
