A maniac brandishing a hockey stick punches a woman in the East Village, yelling, “I'm going to mess you up!” The shaken victim vowed on Thursday to carry Mace from now on to avoid future spooky horrors.
Amber Nguyen, who works in the financial industry, was attacked by a thug on East 6th Street between 1st Avenue and A Street on April 9th at around 10:30 p.m. as she and friends headed to her home in the area. was beaten by It was the latest random attack on a woman in the Big Apple.
“He whipped me on the back of my thigh with a hockey stick,” Nguyen told the Post Thursday.
“We just heard a loud cracking sound and he was walking away with his hockey stick.”
Nguyen said the suspect, whose surveillance footage was released by police on Wednesday, said nothing until he preyed on her, then moved on to another unsuspecting woman nearby.
“He tried to hit the girl, and her boyfriend was like, 'What are you doing?'” Nguyen recalled.
Nguyen and his friends chased the hockey-stick-wielding maniac for several blocks while the other woman's boyfriend terrified him.
But “he turned around and lunged at us again,” she said.
Then he yelled, “I'm going to mess you up!” one financial professional who moved to the city a year ago told the Post.
Nguyen's group fled into the restaurant, but her attacker ultimately escaped.
“It was very scary,” Nguyen said.
This disturbing incident coincided with numerous women reporting being randomly punched by a man while walking in New York City last month.
A number of indiscriminate assaults have occurred in Manhattan, with women in their 20s becoming victims.
Some women recalled their traumatic experiences and showed the scars on TikTok and Instagram.
“We were just talking as a group. It doesn't matter if you're walking alone or in a group, anything can happen,” Nguyen said of the recent spate of random attacks. .
“If you're as careful as you can be, anything can happen.”
Nguyen was treated at the scene, but was left with severe yellow and purple bruising.
When asked what she would do to protect herself in the city, she said: “I'm going to carry my mace from now on. I probably should have done that from the beginning.”
