The Scottish hockey player, who helped Great Britain beat Spain at the Olympics, has thanked his late coach for supporting him throughout his career.
Lee Morton, 29, a midfielder for the Great Britain hockey team competing in this year's Olympics, played Saturday and helped his team win 4-0 in Paris, France.
Morton, a Glasgow native, also plays for Amsterdam's hockey team.
GB's goals came from Gareth Furlong, who scored two, Nick Park and Rupert Shipperley.
Speaking after the win, Morton credited his family and past coaches for his victory, particularly former men's national ice hockey team coach and Scotland Hockey performance programme manager Derek Forsyth.
Forsyth died in 2023 after a short illness.
His widow, Lynne, is currently president of the Scottish Hockey Association and his sons, David and Alan, are both Scottish hockey international players.
Speaking after the win over Spain, Morton paid tribute to his former coach for helping him realise his dream.
In a statement released by X through Scottish Hockey, Morton said: “I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has helped me along the way.”
“I would like to thank my parents for always supporting me and providing me with taxi services all over the country and allowing me to pursue this dream, and my brother for always supporting me and giving me extra training in pairs.
“All the coaches that have coached me, especially Derek Forsyth, have given me more than I can express in words.
“Without his influence and guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
“I'm especially grateful to him.”
England next play South Africa on Sunday before facing the Netherlands, France and Germany.
