The Paris 2024 Games featured the first medal competitions on the first day of competition, with NBC broadcasting all of the biggest highlights and moments in primetime.
Some can't miss moments: Katie Ledecky, the legendary American swimmer and the most decorated Olympian in women's swimming history, won bronze in the 400-meter freestyle, earning her 11th Olympic medal. Ledecky competed against the best swimmers in the world, including gold medalist Ariarne Titmuss of Australia.
Earlier today, Caleb Dressel anchored the U.S. men's 4x100m freestyle relay and led his team to victory and another gold medal, becoming an eighth-time Olympic gold medalist.

Ledecky overcomes with emotion after winning bronze medal
Katie Ledecky spoke to reporters after winning the bronze medal in the 400m freestyle. She praised her competitors and acknowledged that it wasn't her best performance, but she was proud to have won the medal.
“I know what I'm capable of,” Ledecky said.
Ledecky got teary when asked about training with Finke and Smith, saying they are a special group and that she considers herself lucky to spend every day with teammates and coaches who believe in her.
Synchronized divers Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook win silver medals
Childhood best friends Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook won silver in the women's 3-meter synchronized diving on Saturday, earning 314.64 points from five dives and becoming the first Americans to medal in the event since 2012.
China's pair of Zhang Yani and Chen Yiwen won gold with 337.68 points, while Great Britain's Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mu Jensen took bronze with 302.28 points.
Snoop Dogg gets the US team excited
Snoop Dogg was there along with Caleb Dressel's wife and baby to cheer on the US team as they won the gold medal in the men's 4x100m freestyle.
USA wins men's 4x100m freestyle
Caleb Dressel led the U.S. 4×100-meter freestyle team to victory, winning his eighth Olympic gold medal. Jack Alexie, Chris Juliano, Hunter Armstrong and Dressel earned first place with a combined time of 3 minutes, 9.28 seconds.
Australia won the silver medal and Italy won the bronze medal.
Australia wins women's 4x100m freestyle relay
The Australian team won their fourth consecutive gold medal in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay. The USA won silver with Simone Manuel touching the wall, while China took the bronze.

Paul Judah and Frederic Richard advance to individual all-around final
Paul Judah of the U.S. team earned a total score of 82.865 points, qualifying him for the individual all-around final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Frederick Richard of the United States will join Judah in the individual all-around final on Wednesday, July 31.
Brody Malone, small town gymnast
Brody Malone is from a small town in Georgia, works on his family's farm and prides himself on his strong work ethic and believes in the principle that “you get what you put in.”
Malone recalled the bar accident at the DTB Cup in Germany in March 2023, which left him with injuries that could have ended his gymnastics career. During the accident, Malone was unable to land correctly on the bar, resulting in a tibial plateau fracture, a complete LCL tear, a torn meniscus, a partial PCL tear, and cartilage damage in his right knee. As a result, Malone had to not only regain his strength so he could compete again, but also learn how to walk again.
Now, Malone is back at the Olympics, hoping to win a medal for the U.S. team.

Celebrities packed the stands to watch Katie Ledecky, the most decorated female swimmer in Olympic history, win bronze in the women's 400-meter freestyle. The American lost by three seconds to gold medalist Ariarne Titmus of Australia.

U.S. swimmer Katie Ledecky's mother ran into Leslie Jones at the airport and sent Ledecky a video of the encounter, which Jones and Ledecky reminisced about in a one-on-one interview before the Paris Olympics.

In the men's 400m freestyle final, Germany's Lucas Martens beat three world champions to win the event, finishing in an astounding 3 minutes 41.78 seconds.
USA Men's Gymnastics begins competition on Day 1
U.S. Team Gymnastics did not perform as expected on the first day of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Brodie Malone, the lone returning athlete from the 2021 Olympic team, fighting his way to a spot in the individual all-around final after returning from a knee injury.
The U.S. men's team is looking to win its first Olympic team medal since 2008.
France beats Fiji to win rugby sevens gold medal
Host nation France shocked the Fiji team by ending their Olympic dominance in rugby sevens, winning the gold medal on the opening day in front of a crowd of around 70,000 at the Stade de France.
