UFC bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley was not impressed with Mike Perry's performance in his boxing match against Jake Paul last weekend.
Many expected it to be a tough night for “Platinum” Paul due to his unwavering strength and mentality, but that wasn't the case and he was stopped in the sixth round.
BKFC's “King of Violence” certainly showed his grit on Saturday night, but his ability to bounce back after taking damage can only go so far.
Despite feeling that Perry looked out of place in the ring to take on Paul, O'Malley reaffirmed that there was a good reason for that.
Sean O'Malley says Mike Perry was stepping out of his comfort zone against Jake Paul
Perry may have been different from Paul's previous opponents in that he was an active fighter not past his prime, but his lack of boxing experience and the physical difference between the two men were too much for “Platinum” to overcome.
O'Malley said the outcome of the bout in Perry's favor wasn't a big surprise considering he was somewhat out of his league in the bout.
The former UFC fighter has had tremendous success in BKFC, but hanging up the gloves changes everything, especially when it comes to defense and shot selection.
O'Malley said in a recent episode. Timbo Sugar Show Just because Perry lost on Saturday night doesn't mean he couldn't beat Paul if they fought in a more natural environment.
“Mike Perry could beat Jake Paul in bare-knuckle boxing. Mike Perry is the best in boxing, he's a champion. He's the king of the sport, so I didn't have high hopes for him going into boxing. I've never seen Mike Perry put his hands up, throw a beautiful one-two and slip. That's not his style. He was definitely not the best.”
