It's no surprise that UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington is among those who are unimpressed with the division's new champion.
Belal Muhammad came out on top on mixed martial arts' biggest stage last weekend with a win over Leon Edwards in the main event of the UFC 304 pay-per-view at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester.
The five-round main event was largely dominated by the challenger, who defeated “Rocky” in dominant fashion and fulfilled his promise to launch a new era at 170 pounds.
Of course, many have been impressed with Muhammad's performance in England, but he also has his critics. One of those people is Covington…
Covington on UFC 304 main event: “I know who lost, and it was the fans”
In a recent interview Submission RadioCovington gave his initial reaction to Muhammad's championship win across the ocean last weekend.
Despite not even attending the match itself, “Chaos” was convinced it would be uninspiring and boring for fans.
And after criticising both the new champion and his manager Ali Abdelaziz, 'Chaos' insisted he would have no problem stripping Muhammad of his welterweight gold, whom he has also accused of steroid use.
“I can tell you exactly who lost: the fans. I feel bad for them for depriving them of their entertainment,” Covington said. “The racist juice monkey Belal won. He finally cleared his first check in the prelims so he can fix that dildo he put in his face. … Unless Ali takes all his money, but we know his sleazy manager is a thief.”
“I didn't see the fight. … Leon made a ton of money in his last fight, so I don't think he's hungry anymore,” Covington continued. “[Muhammad's]a bitch. … The only time he wanted to fight me was when I signed, sealed and executed the title contract. Outside of that, he never mentioned my name because he's a little devil and he knows what I'll do to him. If I met him, he wouldn't be champion anymore. … I want to fight him. I'll do anything to get that. … He can't do anything to me. … He's obviously on the right steroids now, doing the right cycle. He put in a one-night stand, one-night stand.”
Despite Covington's claims, Muhammad was referring to him long before the title fight was confirmed last year, with “Remember the Name” already calling him “Chaos” following his win over Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
Muhammad was quick to respond, commenting underneath a video of the former interim champion's recent comments and criticizing Covington's 0-3 record in UFC welterweight title fights.
Covington recently missed out on the belt in Edwards' second defence, with the Briton losing the title to Kamaru Usman in 2019 and 2021 before the American went on to win comfortable decisions.
