- Sonny Bill Williams attacks Floyd Mayweather for supporting Israel
- Former soccer player says boxers are cowards with no backbone
- He tells Mayweather to 'keep dancing while kids die'
Former cross-code football star and heavyweight boxer Sonny Bill Williams has launched an attack on undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather for supporting Israel in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Mayweather, a former five-division world champion, was one of the first major celebrities to publicly support Israel after Hamas attacked the country on October 7th.
He arranged for a private plane full of supplies to be flown to Israel to help those in need, and has continued to campaign against anti-Semitism ever since.
Earlier this week, Mayweather visited Israel and was presented with two honors for his continued support of Israel: the Israel Champion Award and the Lifesaving Award.
The boxer has been photographed with various organizations while in Israel and has come under fire from some who criticize Israel's role in the conflict.
Williams, a devout Muslim and vocal supporter of Palestine, shared a video on social media showing Mayweather posing with what appeared to be Israeli Defense Forces and performing a terrifying takedown on the American.
“During the tour, we have stayed in the same hotels as Floyd and his team,” Williams wrote on Thursday's X.
“The football boys wanted to take pictures with him at the front door. He walked past us with an entourage of 10 people and he was accompanied by five women.
“The women seemed more excited about the attention from the boys than from his peers. I kept my eyes on Floyd because he seemed very upset. It wasn't that the boys were asking for pictures, it was that his female friend was paying attention to them instead of him.
“I remember thinking, 'How can someone so well-respected look so insecure?'” – After watching this footage, I realized that a man with no backbone is not human, he is revealed to be a coward, continuing to dance while the children are dying.
In January, the NRL condemned Williams' comments about the Gaza war in a letter to leading Jewish organizations after the former Roosters and Bulldogs star was accused of inciting hatred.
The allegations come after Williams described supporters of Israel as “Zionist cowards” in a social media post last November, and was taken hostage by Hamas in an attack on October 7. He was also criticized for claiming that Israelis were treated well.
Williams, who converted to Islam in 2009, also came under fire from radio host Ray Hadley after she liked a comment on social media calling Hamas terrorists “freedom fighters.” It was done.
The former All Black shared a post by American law professor, author and controversial columnist Khalid Beydoun, who said: “So Ukrainian civilians protecting their families are 'freedom fighters'…but are Palestinians in Gaza doing the exact same thing 'terrorists'?”
Williams reposted her comment with 100 emojis and a palms-up emoji representing prayer to emphasize her support.
Hadley called the comments “disgraceful.”
Mayweather has also been outspoken about his views on the conflict on social media.
He posted: “I stand with Israel against Hamas terrorists.” Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people and is a terrorist group that attacks innocent lives.
“I speak on behalf of all human beings in wishing for the safe return of every American, every Israeli, and every human being kidnapped as hostage in this horrific war crime.
“This is not the time for politics. This is the time for safety above all else.
'God Bless America. May God bless Israel. God bless humanity! ”
In addition to the post, he also attached a photo of himself from a previous visit to Jerusalem.
