Thanks to an investment from the Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation, Licking Heights Local School will provide 10 high school students with real-life experience and on-the-job technical training.
The High School Tech Internship Program reimburses Ohio employers who accept high school interns for technology-focused positions. According to the Central Ohio Educational Service Center, “The goal of the High School Technology Internship Program is to provide businesses with the technical talent they need while providing students with valuable work experience at an early age.”
Interns will work in conjunction with Licking Heights' district technology team. The team is her five-person internal office that services day-to-day cybersecurity and technology operations for all K-12 schools and buildings. Interns will work as entry-level technical employees and learn in-demand skills such as data, cloud and IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, broadband/5G, and advanced mobility.

Some students, like McCord and Kubinski, hope their internships will lead to future opportunities in cybersecurity. After graduation, McCord plans to study computer science and engineering at Ohio State University to become a cloud security analyst. In her internship, she will help the district migrate to a cloud database.
Other students, like Mandal, plan to use internships to gain the experience they need to work at companies in central Ohio, such as Intel. Mandal is interested in chip research and manufacturing, and after he goes to university he wants to work as an engineer at Intel.
