PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Bobcats and Eagles played like roaring locomotives, each side advancing, stirring fuel into the fire and continuing to pick up speed nonstop.
Quinnipiac has been on the move for a while now and is moving forward more than ever. Boston University has traveled to the sun and moon countless times, but this is the only time new fuel has been delivered. The Eagles can keep shoveling for hours, but the Bobcats are running out of time. Quinnipiac trains are slowing down, but BC trains are still moving, they have places to go.
The Bobcats finally stopped at an overpass and watched the Eagles continue their strong run over the horizon. end of line.
Quinnipiac men's hockey finished with the best record in the program's 25-year history at the Division I level. He won five straight games in the NCAA Tournament, winning the national title in 2023 and rebounding the puck in overtime to snap his second straight loss to the Frozen Four.
“It was a great college hockey game,” head coach Rand Pecknold said. “It's a shame right now. I love this group. It's a great group.”
During that quarter-century, Conductor Pecknold converted his train from Lionel to Amtrak's high-speed rail service, taking those who came with him to the top of the mountain.
He is Mr. Resilient and has almost reached the top twice. He continued to return while refueling, jumping over others who were trying to reach the location. It was his turn. He has gone so far that no one but himself can understand.
Year after year, he built a loyal crew who understood his philosophy, resulting in success not only as a hockey player, but also as a man. His efforts are deservedly recognized. He has probably accomplished everything there is to accomplish in his profession.
Pecknold was able to look ahead and think about what he could do in the future. He looked back and he could think about what he had done in the past. He does neither.
“I'm not going to work on that right now,” he says. “We have a very unique situation at Quinnipiac, the culture that we have and the experience that our young men and student-athletes have, because it's unique. In words. It's hard to explain…but this is a unique situation we have and we thrive in it. That's why we win and why we will continue to win. .”
Pecknold accepted the transfer and showed them the way. His culture is contagious.
“It’s interesting to see transfers like this coming from other schools and other important programs,” Pecknold said. “They come in and right away they're like, 'Oh, I see why you guys won.'
So Quinnipiac has stopped and BC is still moving forward, but this is not the end. The Bobcats will continue to travel and climb more mountains. It's really the Eagles' turn here.
Pecknold has waited before, and his patience has paid off. He now has as much time as he needs to refuel and find coal to shovel into the fire. Only then will he command his crew again and they will soar over the horizon.
