Devin Haney says Ryan Garcia's crazy behavior makes him feel like he's an “alcoholic,” but insists that won't prevent him from preparing for his April 20 fight.
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), the WBC light welterweight champion, has already surpassed Ryan and is eyeing a lucrative bout with Gervonta Davis that he and his father, Bill Haney, want next.
That could be a problem considering Haney is hydrated to 165 pounds. Mr. Tank will insist that Haney agree to a hydration clause and perhaps a catchweight. Devin isn't going to agree to either of those, so a fight likely won't happen.
Haney criticizes Garcia's pregame antics
“I know Tank Davis is a super fight and it's a fight I want to have, but we'll have to wait and see,” Devin Haney said on social media about his April 20 fight with Gervonta Davis. Following his title defense, he said he would like to fight Gervonta Davis next. Ryan Garcia.
As long as Haney agrees to the weight stipulation and Tank's purse demands, a fight between the two is certainly possible.
“I don't know what tactics he has and trying to get people out of the fight,” Haney said of Ryan. “I've never seen shit like this before. Talk about the fight,” Haney said of Ryan talking about non-boxing-related things during interviews and social media conversations.
“He talked about things he knew very little about himself. I know he's an alcoholic. He drinks. It's like, when he's drunk, he has this awful shit. It’s time to come,” Devin said.
Haney stays focused despite Garcia's attitude
“Whatever Ryan is going to do. Whether he's faking it or not, it doesn't change what I do to him,” Haney said due to his erratic and unhinged behavior. He talked about whether he would receive praise from the fans if he defeated Ryan.
“He's going to go into the game and execute his game plan, no matter what it is. I’m not going to let that stop you from doing your best,” Devin said.
Haney sees Teofimo Lopez as tougher challenge
“We've seen Theo at the top level. We've never seen Matias at such an elite level,” Haney said, adding that Teofimo López and Subriel Matias When asked if it would be a tougher battle for him, he replied: “Off my head, I would say Theo. He has more experience.”
