Welsh mixed martial arts star Jack Shore suffered a serious injury after suffering the second loss of his professional career to Brazilian JoAnderson Brito at UFC 301.
Shore, known as “Tank”, played against the Briton on Saturday in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Brit entered the contest as an underdog but was dismantled within two rounds, with Brito winning by TKO in the second round.
The Brazilian landed an early kick, aiming for the leg, but it left a big cut on Shore's shin.
The Welshman appeared to be moving well, but the referee stopped the fight in the second round as a doctor entered the cage to check on the fighter.
Commentator Jon Anik and commentary partners Paul Felder and Daniel Cormier discussed the injury as cameras showed the extent of the injury.
Anik likened the damage sustained to a “bullet hole,” and co-commentators agreed that the match should be stopped for Shore's safety.
And this was the referee's action, and it was later confirmed that the doctor in the cage was worried that Shore had broken his leg.
MMA star Vince Morales spoke to X (formerly on Twitter) to discuss the decision.
he wrote: “Cool, check the calf kick and it won't work lol. Damn it.”
I then asked if the old scar had reopened or if there was new damage, and she replied, “I thought it was swelling from a previous bite, but I can't say for sure.” .
57-0 kickboxer Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson also discussed the decision on social media, deciding to criticize the doctor who put his finger in the hole.
“That doctor just kept sticking his finger in,” he wrote.
“Did you like that suspension?” I can't imagine he could have taken much more…”
Mixed martial arts fighter Dan Hardy also criticized the doctor, saying: “It shouldn't have been stopped and the doctor shouldn't have stuck his finger in to make the wound worse.”
“It's a cut. No bones were broken. Please continue playing.
“Dude, that's just a shin,” fellow UFC star Belal Muhammad joked.
Shore has made a full recovery and will look to bounce back from his second professional loss, but it remains to be seen when he will be able to return to competition.
