Gracie Hyde left her mark on history.
The Adams State University graduate student from Benton, Ark., was among the leaders in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Thursday's Brian Clay Invitational, then went toe-to-toe with Lexi Halladay-Lowry as the race extended, ultimately earning her the NCAA Division II spot. Achieved history.
Hyde set a new NCAA Division II record that night with a time of 9:28.17, just shy of Halladay-Lowry's winning time of 9:26.55.
With this performance, Hyde also set a new school record, surpassing former D2 record holder Eilish Flanagan, who ran 9:40.68 in 2021. Even better, Hyde, along with two other American athletes, also earned the new Olympic “A” standard. 3 internationals.
A total of six people fell short of the Olympic standard of 9 minutes, 41 seconds, including BYU standout athlete Halladay Lowry, who competed naked Thursday.
British-born Ellis Thorner of Florida was third with a time of 9:28.49, and American Angelina Ellis of Under Armor Dark Sky was fourth with a time of 9:30.71.
Simone Ponte Ferraz of Atsugi Milers Club was fifth with a time of 9:31.59, and Greta Kalinauskaite of California Baptist was sixth with a time of 9:37.31.
