SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Gophers entered Saturday's NCAA Sioux Falls Regional game against Boston College with several advantages. The crowd at the Denny Sanford Premier Center was mainly in support of Minnesota, and it was homegrown senior center Jackson Nelson. He was from near Magnolia, Minn., and was playing on his 24th birthday, having scored the game-tying and winning goals two nights earlier.
Boston College countered with two difference-makers in All-American defenseman Lane Hutson and freshman sensation Macklin Celebrini, who is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft.
As it turned out, there was no storybook ending for the Gophers, and this time in St. Paul, they missed out on their goal of returning for Frozen 4 for the third year in a row. Instead, the Terriers went to Xcel Energy Center after a 6-3 win thanks to performances from Celebrini and Hutson.

The Terriers quickly tied the score at 2-2 in the second set with great play from Celebrini. Celebrini's play in the Minnesota zone gave the Terriers the first goal. Chebrini's strong forecheck spilled the puck, and he gathered it in the back of the net, forcing Harvey to take a quick shot and beat the Crows for a 3-2 lead at 5:25.
The Gophers continued to apply pressure on the Terriers' side, which was rewarded with the tying goal. Huegren buried a rebound of Brody Lamb's shot to beat Caron and make it 3-3 at 9:20 of the second game.
