Next fight: I am currently competing in the Team Combat League. My next pro fight is on September 7th at the Bayou Events Center in Houston.
When and why did you start boxing?
I started boxing because I got kicked off the track and cross country team in college for pranking. I spent a year enjoying college and during that time I met a professional boxer. I'd done every other sport and I wanted to give boxing a try. So I went to the gym where he trained and the coach told me I had great potential. The rest is history.
Favorite fighter of all time:
Sugar Ray Robinson. I like his overall skill set.
The best fight I've ever seen:
It was in Argentina, at the 2016 Olympic qualifiers, and my teammate Jonathan Esquivel looked like he was going to lose the fight with about 10 seconds left in the final round, but then he knocked his opponent out.
Personal career highlights:
When I won the Olympic Trials for the 2016 Olympics, I was competing against my biggest rival, Marlen Esparza. She had beaten me five times in a row leading up to that tournament, but I finally beat her when it mattered most.
Toughest Opponent:
Myself, because I am the only person who can beat me.
Best and worst traits as a boxer:
My biggest strength is that I can quickly adapt to the style of whoever is in front of me. My biggest weakness is that sometimes I get too excited and get carried away with my combinations. I'm still working on fixing that.
Training Tips:
Enjoy every moment of your training, focus on what you are doing and understand how it can benefit you, and live in the moment, even if it is hard and tiring.
Favorite meal/restaurant:
I just love to eat, but I can eat as many croissants as I want.
Boxing's best friend:
Michaela Meyer and Claressa Shields.
What other athlete would you like to be?
My favorite athlete is the American long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine.
Last movie/TV show watched:
My dad and I watched the movie “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,” which depicts the collapse of Enron.
If a movie were made about your life, who would play you?
Margot Robbie was in the Barbie movie I just watched.
Have you ever been starstruck?
Rudy Tomjanovich was the coach of the Houston Rockets in the '90s when they were winning everything. I never thought I'd get to meet him.
When was the last time you cried?
I was watching an episode of the American TV series '13 Reasons Why'.
Best advice received:
When you do something for someone, you should not expect anything in return.
What little is known about you:
In middle school, I struggled with anorexia so badly that my parents feared I would die. I was sent to an inpatient center where I was clinically diagnosed with OCD.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Preferably on a nice big boat. Somewhere in the Caribbean or Florida. I don't know what I'll do when I'm done with boxing, but I know I want to be on a boat.
What would you like to change about boxing?
It's all about attention now. Talent doesn't matter anymore. I wish promoters would focus more on talent, develop fighters and give them more opportunities, not just on the number of social media followers.
