The German Boxing Association (GNBA) has confirmed that it will field an eight-man team through national qualifiers to take part in the 2024 IBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
The event took place in the city of Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, July 20th, and drew large crowds to watch some of Germany's most promising young players in action.
Eight boxers have been selected to make the team and will compete in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships to be held in Budva, Montenegro from October 20 to November 6, 2024.
“The event was a great success and provided the nominated players with an opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work,” said GNBA President Lusen Bakos. “The nominated players will now begin intensive preparation for the World Championship, with training camps and additional warm-up matches planned to ensure they are in top form when they travel to Montenegro. We wish them the best of luck and are sure they will make Germany proud.”
The GNBA became a provisional member of the IBA in January 2024.
“The International Boxing Association warmly welcomes these young German boxers as they prepare to compete against some of the best athletes of the future at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in October,” said IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE.
“We believe it is essential to always provide this opportunity for all athletes, allowing them to represent their country in IBA competitions that are well organised and supported by our member federations. Every country deserves to have its young boxers represented and we encourage National Federations to take part in our competitions and support the future stars of our sport.”
The players named in Germany's squad are: Alexander Chisari, Maksim Schukin, Artyom Dementiev, Roman Kronwald, Denis Barko, Daniel Barko, Nick Smirnov and Enni Lux.
