The University of Georgia football secondary was ranked in the top 10 in college football by analyst Greg McElroy.
The Georgia Bulldogs have consistently boasted one of the best defenses in college football since head coach Kirby Smart took over. For most years, the defensive line and linebackers have led the Bulldogs' defense, but this season the secondary may take center stage.
Here's how one college football analyst feels about the Bulldogs. College football analyst Greg McElroy ranked the top 10 secondaries in the sport for the 2024 season, and the Bulldogs are in it. He ranked Georgia's group sixth. Here's what he had to say:
“We only have two guys returning from last year's team,” McElroy said. “The good news is Malachi Starks is one of the best safeties in the sport. This is a great starting point.”
Coach McElroy is right to be concerned about the returnees, but they do have some experienced players returning. Safety Dan Jackson is a familiar face in the safety group going into the 2021 season. Defensive backs Daniel Harris and Julian Humphrey played regular minutes last season. They also added five-star recruit Ellis Robinson IV, who is rated as one of the top players in the country and is expected to make an impact in his first year. Safety KJ Bolden is also a former five-star freshman expected to play.
While there are questions about the performance of some players this season, Georgia's secondary group has a lot of potential. Defensive back Daylen Everett has a full season of experience as a starter along with Malachi Starks and can be used at multiple positions.
