We met again.
This will be the second time in two seasons and third time in the last six seasons that the New York Islanders will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the postseason.
The Islanders are 0-2 against the Hurricanes in postseason play, losing in six games in the first round last season, but were swept in the second round of the 2019 playoffs.
The Islanders enter the series as the No. 3 seed in the Metro and have used a 9-1-1 stretch to jump from outside the playoffs to their current standings. Therefore, the Isles will be one of the hottest teams going forward, but they will have to play against the Hurricanes, a hot team for more than half the season.
Since Dec. 12, the Hurricanes have a record of 38-11-6 and have not lost consecutive games in regulation. Carolina earned points in 44 of the final 55 games of the season.
The Islanders and Hurricanes have both gone 2-1, 1-1 this season, with the road team winning each game.
“The way we've played so far, [down the stretch] It made us feel confident again,” said Matthew Barzal. “Of course we know we're playing a great team. This team is a strong contender for the cup. It's going to be a war just like last year and it's going to be a hell of a series.”
