Florida State's quarterback corps was hit hard by the departure of Heisman Trophy finalist and 2023 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Jordan Travis, but appears poised to bounce back under head coach Mike Norvell and position coach Tony Toekers. Florida State secured its future under center with a high-profile recruiting and development move, acquiring DJ Uiagalelei, a transfer from Oregon State in the offseason.
Uiagalelei is expected to compete for a starting spot, but he will have to compete with talented freshman Brock Glenn and promising former four-star prospect Luke Chromenhoek during fall camp to secure the lead point guard position.
College football analyst Phil Steele recently released a list of his top 25 recruiting quarterbacks heading into this season, with Chromenhoek, a 6-foot-4 quarterback from Savannah, Georgia, ranked ninth.
BREAKING: FSU football made some noise on the Fourth of July when four-star offensive lineman Peyton Joseph committed.
While he ranks ninth on Steal's list, Chromenhoek is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 cycle according to On3 Industry Rankings. He chose to enroll with the Seminoles over offers from several big names, including Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee.
With FSU's starting spot for next season already secured, Cromenhoek should have plenty of time to develop, but he'll likely play a big role in coach Mike Norvell's plans going forward.– Chandler Ship, On3.com
Florida State was the first program to offer Cromenhoek during their annual recruiting camp in June 2021. The Benedictine Military Academy quarterback never wavered in his commitment to the Noles and helped shape one of the top recruiting classes in the country. Running back Cam Davis, ranked No. 5 at his respective position, and tight end Landen Thomas, ranked No. 1, are also part of the #Tribe24 on Steals' list.
Chromenhoek threw for nearly 7,000 yards and 73 touchdowns in three seasons at Benedictine, was selected to the All-American Bowl in 2024 and reached the Elite 11 Finals in 2023, and also threw for 3,136 yards and 31 touchdowns during his senior year, while also passing for 2,578 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushing for 588 yards and seven scores.
Whether Uiagalelei, Glenn or Chromenhoek leads the offense in 2024, Florida State's offensive power isn't likely to slow down significantly in the near future.
