The Florida State Seminoles completely hit the transfer portal this offseason. However, this is nothing new for Mike Norvell. This helped him turn around the program in Tallahassee and create a consistent approach on and off the field.
The addition of DJ Uiagalelei under center has added stability to the offense, and Jaylen Brown and Malik Benson have also been added to the wide receiver room. The offense will continue to be great, but with the introduction of a 12-team system this season, an elite defense could be the key to the Seminoles advancing to the College Football Playoff.

The Seminoles saw 10 players have their names called during the 2024 NFL Draft, but they bounced back well and appeared to reload. They were able to show it off at the program's spring exhibition a few weeks ago.
The Georgia transfer and Florida State edge rusher was rated as the “Outstanding Player of the Spring Game” after his performance and overall show this spring. Traditional Seminole player Marvin Jones Jr. was named an outstanding player by 247Sports' Cody Nagel.
“Marvin Jones Jr. appears poised for a breakout season at Florida State, where transfers are high under head coach Mike Norvell. Former Georgia edge rusher He made his presence felt in the Seminoles' spring game, although he was not allowed a quarterback sack,'' Nagel wrote.
During his two seasons at Georgia, Jones Jr. struggled to find consistent snaps. But it's not a shock to the former four-star player. The Bulldogs have some of the best recruiting classes of all time, so every position is packed with talent and depth. Rather than continue to fight for snaps or compete with other players at the position, Jones, a junior, will be able to don the garnet and gold and shine right away.
“Jones put pressure on the pocket and nearly stole an interception from quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Jones spent the past two seasons in a limited role at the University of Georgia, but will be a strong player at Florida State in 2024.” “He could be part of a one-two punch. He's the son of former Seminoles legend and 10-year NFL veteran Marvin Jones.”
Strong, talented edge rushers have always been a staple for Florida State in the Norvell era, and next season, with Jones Jr. showing every inch of his talent, will be nothing new. He showed glimpses of that during the spring game, but he'll likely see consistent snaps this fall, as he's likely to break out as a star in Tallahassee.
