Florida State is gaining momentum at the perfect time on the recruiting trail. While they haven't signed a freshman for the 2025 class since January, the Seminoles have quickly gained momentum and are one of the top recruits in the country.
On Sunday night, 4-star cornerback Gregory Xavier Thomas committed to Florida State over Clemson. Thomas becomes the 5th recruit to join the #Tribe25 in the last 7 days.
Thomas, a Florida native, has been one of the top prospects at any position for quite some time. The Seminoles offered him last summer and had him on campus multiple times over the past six months, including an official visit last weekend. His longtime relationship with head coach Mike Norvell and some of the staff was enough to convince Thomas to don the garnet and gold rather than take his talents to Clemson.

Additionally, defensive backs coach Patrick Surtin Sr. was the head coach at Thomas' high school, American Heritage High School, which also helped.
“Myself and the coaching staff are really focused on building a bond during my visit, rather than anything football-related. We talked a lot about life today, so it was good,” Thomas previously told NoleGameday. “I came here to play football, but I'm going to live here. Wherever I go, I'm going to have the coach that I feel most comfortable with. Off the field, that's what's most important to me.”
The Tigers only began scouting Thomas in April but quickly became the favorite to acquire the elite defensive back, and with Clemson being Thomas' only official visit outside of Florida State, it was clear the school was a real threat.
Thomas recorded 19 total tackles, one tackle for loss and two interceptions during his junior season, leading his team to the playoff semi-finals, and also ran track during his high school career, clocking a time of 11.56 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
The tall, athletic defensive back is capable of playing multiple positions at the collegiate level but is expected to start at cornerback. Thomas is brimming with potential that Surtain Sr. and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller can exploit. His athleticism and athleticism will give him a chance to compete for playing time early on in Tallahassee.
With Thomas' addition, Florida State now has nine verbal pledges in the #Tribe25, moving up from No. 44 in the country to No. 34 in the pledge rankings, with the Seminoles jumping nearly 40 spots up the rankings in less than a week.
While Thomas is the first defensive back to join the class, the program is still recruiting other prospects including four-star Ben Hanks Jr., four-star Javoree Antoine, four-star Onis Konambaney, four-star Jordan Young, four-star LaDarian Clardy, four-star Bryce Fitzgerald, four-star Tony Williams (UCF), four-star Jaydon Blair, three-star Max Redmon and three-star Jet White (Maryland).
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back is considered the No. 190 overall prospect, No. 17 S and No. 23 overall player out of Florida in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports.
