Florida State football's spring season concludes Saturday with the annual Spring Showcase at Doak Campbell Stadium starting at 4 p.m.
While the stadium is still undergoing renovations, fans can get a preview of what's to come for the Seminoles this fall.
Fan favorites like Patrick Payton, Laurence Toafili and Shyheim Brown will return, but FSU football fans will get a first look at transfers like DJ Uiagalelei, Malik Benson and Jaylin Lucas. Dew.
Additionally, the 1999 National Champion Team will be recognized.
The team's honorary coaches participating in the showcase include defensive lineman and current state Sen. Corey Simon, R-Tallahassee, running back Travis Minor, linebacker Tommy Pauley and receiver Peter Pauley. This is Mr. Warwick.
“We're going to change the timing and roll out, and the main part of the scoring will be the grand finale,” FSU head coach Mike Norvell said. “We're excited to welcome back some of our past players from that 1999 team that was truly special.
“It's going to be really fun to see them come back and participate.”
FSU players who will miss the spring showcase include quarterbacks Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek, receiver Destin Hill, tight end Jalal Powers, offensive tackle Robert Scott Jr., and defensive tackle Robert Scott Jr. They include former Gadsden County star Joshua Farmer and several others.
The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-80s.
Additionally, more than 50 new employees are expected to participate in the event.
Michael Grant finds Bandrevious Jacobs for the only pass TD of the day to end the showcase.
The spring showcase ended on a positive note with walk-on quarterback Grant, a redshirt freshman, broadcasting the game to find Jacobs in the end zone for a touchdown.
This was the only passing touchdown among all quarterbacks in the Spring Showcase.
This could be used as momentum heading into the fall season for both Grant and Jacobs, who are looking to make their mark on the team.
The players gather at midfield as FSU head coach Mike Norvell speaks to the team one more time before leaving the field.
The team will have one more spring practice tomorrow before officially entering the offseason. The final attendance for the spring showcase was 18,061.
Members of the 1999 team are honored and take over coaching duties.
In the final 25 minutes of the Spring Showcase, legends Peter Warrick, Corey Simon, Travis Minor, and Tommy Pauley will appear in the showcase as guest coaches.
Warrick and Simon coach the Garnet team. Miner and Paulie coach the white team.
TJ Ferguson leaves the field with apparent injury
Shortly after Benson was ejected, offensive lineman Ferguson left the game and was taken to the medical tent for evaluation.
Like Benson, he is also a transfer from Alabama. This spring season was not good for FSU due to injuries, and the same continued in the spring showcase.
It will be interesting to see what the Seminoles' depth chart looks like as fall approaches.
Jaylin Lucas will be released for the first time today
Lucas, perhaps the fastest player on the roster, was tackled to the ground by defensive back Azaleye Thomas after breaking free on a long run.
The players in the secondary have been talking all spring about how fast Lucas is and how hard it was to slow him down. This was Lucas' biggest takeaway today, as the defense quickly drove him to the ground or out of bounds.
Malik Benson goes down and leaves showcase
Benson, who was having a good day, left the field with an apparent injury. He is a popular target for quarterback DJ Uiagalelei today and has made some impressive grabs.
A transfer to Alabama is being considered as one of the starting wide receiver spots this fall.
After being tested, he left the stadium in a cart. It appears to be an obvious left leg injury.
Darrion Williamson's big grab leads to a Kazaiah Holmes touchdown.
Williamson grabbed Uiagalelei's arm wide for a gain of over 40 yards. On the next play, Holmes takes off, fights a few defenders, and destroys the plane for a touchdown.
FSU has a slight advantage in the run game today, but you can see Uiagalelei starting to settle down and find passes.
Malik Benson makes an impressive grab from DJ Uiagalelei
Benson made his first impressive play of the day, making a long grab of defensive back Fentrell Cypress 2 from DJ Uiagalelei on the sideline.
On the next play, Roydell Williams runs in for a touchdown. Both transfers from Alabama introduced themselves to FSU fans early on.
Benson's catch was the first solid grab seen early in the showcase.
The offense looks unstable from the beginning.
DJ Uiagalelei had two passes broken up near picks by linebacker DJ Lundy and defensive lineman Marvin Jones Jr.
A similar theme was observed in practices where the defense jumped out and the offense caught up.
In between “action” drills, running back Jaylin Lucas has gotten some reps on special teams, returning punts from Ryan Fitzgerald.
Ryan Fitzgerald hit from 42 yards, Sean Murphy left injured
FSU's Spring Showcase is underway! Kicker Fitzgerald kicked off the game with a 42-yard field goal.
Last season, he was 19-of-21 from the field and had 48 total yards for the season. Fitzgerald also went a perfect 58 out of 58 in points after that.
On the next drive, redshirt sophomore linebacker Sean Murphy left the game with an injury. He is a first-year transfer from Alabama.
Murphy will return to the game.
More than 60 new employees participated in the spring showcase
According to 247 Sports.com, three Tallahassee prospects are on the visiting list. Goby wide receiver Tylan Vickers, Gasdens County's Lamar Williams and Rickards defensive lineman Jalen Wiggins are among the local prospects participating in the showcase.
Wiggins and Williams are both members of the Class of 2025. Williams, a Miami native, is rated as a four-star prospect with offers from FSU, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, Maryland and West Virginia. Wiggins, a Florida native, is a four-star edge rusher who has received his 26 offers from the FBS. Vickers is not rated by 247Sports but is being scouted by FSU, FAMU and Miami. – peter holland jr.
