Another NHL draft pick is leaving the University of Wisconsin men's hockey team through the transfer portal.
William Whitelaw tied for sixth among Badgers players with 10 goals.

On Tuesday, forward William Whitelaw put his name in the portal. He joins three others who have done so since the Badgers' season ended last Friday.
Unlike defensemen Brady Cleveland and Luke LaMaster and forward Sam Stange, Whitelaw was in the lineup for the NCAA Tournament's first-round overtime loss to Quinnipiac. However, his usage in that game and throughout the season indicated his future with the Badgers was in question.

Wisconsin men's hockey player enters transfer portal, turns pro again
Whitelaw helped Youngstown win the National Hockey League championship last year and was a third-round pick by Columbus. He primarily bounced between the second and third lines as a freshman at Wisconsin, but dropped to the fourth line in the playoffs. He was dressed as a No. 13 forward against Quinnipiac.
He was initially committed to the former Badgers staff led by Tony Granato. After scoring 10 goals in 37 games with the Badgers, Whitelaw will need three seasons of eligibility before his next college start.
Cleveland and Stange were also NHL draft picks, but their use throughout the season was limited. Cleveland was selected in the second round by Detroit in 2023 and played in 16 of 40 games. Stange, a fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2020, appeared in just seven games.
