WBA No. 2 Frank Martin has confirmed that he will fight the “face of boxing” Gervonta “Tank” Davis next. Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) said the fight date and location are still being finalized. It is rumored to be held on Amazon Prime Video PPV on June 22nd in Houston, Texas.
The 29-year-old Martin, nicknamed “Ghost,” defeated Artem Harutyunyan in a narrow 12-round unanimous decision last July. For Martin, a native of Detroit, Michigan, it was a close call. He can't afford to fight like that if he wants to dethrone Tank Davis.
Martin says there will be no hydration clause or catchweight involved in his fight with Tank Davis, like teammate Ryan Garcia had to endure last year.
Tank Davis' management got Ryan to agree to a dehydration clause, a catchweight handicap and a split of the purse to make the fight happen.
They virtually gave Ryan no chance of winning, and still had the gall to celebrate their dirty victory as if they had won it fairly.
Matchup still pending
“It's not official confirmation yet. We're still waiting on the venue and the exact date, but it's not official yet,” Frank Martin said of the fight with Gervonta Davis rumored to take place in June. He spoke about this on the Fight Hub TV YouTube channel. The 22nd.
Martin will be taking a lot of offense in this fight and will need a good chin to take on the big shot from Tank Davis on June 22nd. As seen in his fight with Isaac 'Pitbull' Crews, Tank is vulnerable, so if he can handle his power, we can't rule out the possibility of Martin scoring an upset victory.
“A lot of people are going to see something unexpected in that fight,” Martin said of the fight with Tank Davis. “Everyone knows who Tank is. He's a star. There's a lot of people in the boxing world that don't know about me. It's one of my opportunities to wake up the world.
Martin analyzes the loss of Ryan Garcia
“You have to understand that Ryan had a hydration clause. So my understanding is that he could only hydrate a certain amount of weight,” Martin told Tank Davis last year. He talked about his losing gymmate, Ryan Garcia.
Martin believes the weight rule imposed on Ryan played a role in his loss, as Ryan was not adequately hydrated. Still, I don't think it would have been a problem if Ryan didn't have a weight rule. He wasn't going to beat Tank that night.
“He wasn't 100% himself. In big fights, if you're not 100% yourself, you're at a disadvantage. It was 100% Ryan with him. I don't think so. Yeah, for sure,” Martin said of not having a hydration clause against Gervonta in June.
