Utah Jazz forward Otto Porter Jr., who was part of Golden State's 2022 title-winning team, announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday, ending his 11-year career.
Porter, 30, who has struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons, said in a statement through the Jazz: “Unfortunately, my body does not allow me to play at the level I expect from myself. So, I decided to retire. “
“Over the past 11 years, I have had the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing in the NBA,” Porter added. “That dream was achieved by winning the NBA Championship!”
Porter joined the Warriors on a one-year deal ahead of the 2021-22 season and has proven to be a key role player. He started 15 of Golden State's 63 regular season games, averaging 8.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in over 22 minutes per game, shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 37 from deep. % was recorded.
Porter then started three games in the postseason, appearing in 19 total games and logging 19.5 minutes per game. He averaged 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from deep, helping Golden State win the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
In the following offseason, Porter signed a multi-year contract with the Toronto Raptors. However, due to surgery on his foot, his first season in Toronto ended with just eight appearances. He played in just 15 games with the team this season as he returned from surgery and then suffered a knee sprain.
Prior to last month's trade deadline, the Raptors shipped Porter to Utah as part of the Kelly Olynyk deal.Athletic Shams Charania report Earlier Monday, the Jazz announced they would waive Porter, who has not yet played in a game with the team, citing sources.
Porter was the third overall pick in the 2013 draft and spent his career with the Washington Wizards, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, Warriors and Raptors. He started 319 of his 527 career games, averaging 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds.
