Former Southern California wide receiver Kyle Ford shocked the Trojan community by announcing he would transfer after the 2022 season. It's not because he transferred, it's where he focused his time.
He transferred to crosstown rival UCLA, but could he return to USC?
Ford stopped by USC's fifth spring camp practice on Thursday, and if he returns to USC, he would be the third Bruin to join the Trojans' roster for the 2024 season this offseason. If he decides to return to the Trojans, he will join safety Kamari Ramsey and cornerback John Humphrey, who transferred from UCLA to USC following defensive coordinator Danton Lynn.
USC is reportedly one of six schools owned by Ford narrowed down his list All the way. His other five are Michigan State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Florida State and Wake Forest.
Ford committed to the Trojans in 2019 after suffering a knee injury that caused him to miss the final five games of his senior season at Orange Lutheran University. He suffered a knee injury in the summer of 2020, his second season. This injury affected limited playing time during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
The Corona, Calif., native enrolled at UCLA in January 2023 and appeared in 12 games with the Bruins, starting two of them. He had 22 receptions for 236 yards and one touchdown.
There appears to be no ill will between Ford and USC head coach Lincoln Riley. The two shared a moment during Thursday's practice. USC has only six scholarship players returning this season and one true freshman, so it's possible they'll use a veteran receiver.
