Former U.S. women's soccer star Carli Lloyd and her husband are expecting their first child in October.
Lloyd, 41, announced her pregnancy on Instagram on Wednesday. She has been married to Brian Hollins for seven years and revealed in her social media posts that she has been undergoing fertility treatments.
“The journey to get here has been a roller coaster,” Lloyd wrote. “We are so excited to be parents! I couldn't have gotten through this without my amazing husband, Brian. He has really pushed me forward.”
Lloyd retired in 2021 after a career that included two World Cup wins and two Olympic gold medals. Her best moment was when she scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of America's win over Japan in the 2015 Women's World Cup final.
Lloyd has played 316 games for the national team, the second-most international appearances of any player. She scored 134 goals and had 61 assists for the U.S. National Team, third in team history.
Lloyd was named FIFA Women's Player of the Year twice during her 22-year playing career.
Lloyd joined former U.S. men's greats Cobi Jones in Greece last week to participate in the U.S. State Department's Sports Envoy Program.
