This week AN Elgin Martial Arts Club received a visit from Team GB Olympic Coach and former Olympian.
On Monday, March 18th, Sansum Martial Arts welcomed 2012 London Olympian Martin Stamper to take on former teammate Damon Sansum on Murray.
Damon himself is a former Olympic team athlete and two-time world medalist. He currently serves as Performance Director for Sansum Martial Arts.
During his visit to the north, Martin Stamper attended training sessions at the Moray Sports Center in Lossiemouth and Elgin.
Impressed by the level of talent and the commitment of the youngsters, he said: “Damon and I are very good friends and it was an honor to coach Damon during his last few years, but that's how our friendship continued.'' It really made it stronger.
“We have been following Damon’s success at Murray closely since he left the GB team and have been really impressed with the amount of young people joining his club and the amount of talent he has developed. Masu.”
Damon Sansome, who has traveled the world with Great Britain, has decided to return to the Murray to inspire local athletes rather than pursue coaching opportunities with the Olympic team.
He said: “Team GB have been following the performance of my young team closely here in the Murray and when Martin asked to come and have a look at the work we have done here; I was very happy,” he said.
