Former Florida State superstar Dalvin Cook remains a free agent. He has yet to sign with a new franchise after parting ways with the New York Jets last season. The Jets didn't suit him, so now he's looking for his next home.
The former Seminole player is reportedly interested in signing with the Dallas Cowboys to fill the hole at the running back position.
Michael Gehrken of the Dallas Morning News reported that Cook, along with Ezekiel Elliott, is interested in signing with the Cowboys.
“Team owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones told the Dallas Morning News at this week's NFL annual meeting that they could neither confirm nor deny interest in the running back,” Gerken wrote.
Cook signed with the Baltimore Ravens for the playoffs, but was underutilized and didn't fill the role the four-time Pro Bowler would have been expected to play with the Jets last season. He could potentially fill a growing void in Dallas.
The Cowboys have lost productivity in their backfield after Tony Pollard left this offseason, and it's hard to argue there's a better player in Dallas' position group than Cook.
The 2024 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and could be the Cowboys' chance to draft a rookie running back for the second year in a row, but if they're particularly interested in Cook, signing him could be Probably not such a bad idea.
Last season, Cook had just 82 carries, 292 rushing yards, and zero scores, while rapidly falling down the depth chart. The former Seminole had a stellar career in Tallahassee, and when healthy, he was great with the Minnesota Vikings.
The past few years have been far from ideal for Cook, but going to a place like Dallas, where there seem to be few other options at the running back position, could be a chance to salvage his season.
