PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Former Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks center Jeremy Ronick The induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame has been confirmed, ending the wait for the American player who has been waiting for eligibility for more than a decade.
Roenick is one of seven players elected to the 2024 class, which will feature two women for the first time since 2010. For the first time in the Hall of Fame's history, two American women will be elected: Natalie Darwitz and Chrissy Wendell Pohl.
Two-time Stanley Cup-winning winger Pavel Datsyuk and defenseman Shea Weber were selected in their first year of eligibility, while longtime executives Colin Campbell and David Poile were selected in the Builders category.
Roenick was drafted eighth overall by the Blackhawks in 1988 and played for the Phoenix Coyotes, Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks during his 20-year career.
He scored 1,216 points in 1,363 games, fourth-most among U.S.-born players.
“JR” was eligible for the HHOF but has missed out every year since.
Roenick signed with the Flyers as a free agent in 2001 and won the Bobby Clarke Trophy (MVP) and Yannick Dupré Memorial Team Award in his first season with Philadelphia. He led the Flyers with 46 assists and 67 points in his first year.
“Congratulations to @Jeremy_Roenick on being selected as a member of @HockeyHallFame's Class of 2024!,” the Flyers wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Roenick spent three seasons with Philadelphia, racking up 173 points in 216 regular season games, and 21 points in 36 playoff games with the Flyers.
Roenick was named to the NHL All-Star team nine times and scored 513 goals in his career.
