(WGHP) — A former college football star is accused of poisoning his girlfriend and her unborn child. According to the police.
Police announced that U.S. Marshals arrested 27-year-old Blaise A. Taylor in Utah. Taylor was indicted in Nashville on two counts of first-degree murder in the poisoning deaths of his girlfriend Jade Benning and his unborn child.
Police say Taylor was the father of the unborn child.
Benning died at a hospital on March 6, 2023, according to investigators. It was her 25th birthday that day.
Benning was first hospitalized after Taylor called 911 at 9:38 p.m. on February 25, 2023, saying she was having an allergic reaction and called for paramedics.
Benning's condition quickly became critical. Her fetus died on February 27th.
Police say they were unable to interview Benning before his death.
After months of investigation and consultation with the crime lab and the Office of the Medical Examiner, authorities on Wednesday charged Taylor with murder.
Investigators say Taylor allegedly poisoned Benning without her knowledge when she visited Benning's home on February 25, and that she moved to Utah after Benning and her unborn child died. .
Taylor was a defensive back for the Arkansas State University Red Wolves football team from 2014 to 2017.
Taylor has held several football-related jobs, including stints with Utah State University and the Tennessee Titans. According to The Athletic.
