Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is set to face John Gotti III again later this summer.
Floyd Mayweather has remained retired from professional boxing since his knockout win over Conor McGregor in 2017. However, he has continued to compete in exhibition boxing matches since then. Since December 2018, the former champion has faced everyone from Logan Paul to Tenshin Nasukawa.
But Floyd Mayweather's last exhibition ended in controversy when the retired boxer faced John Gotti III in Miami last June. The young fighter, grandson of New York gangster John Gotti, had some victories inside the cage and in the ring, but failed to achieve any against Mayweather last summer.
Eventually, John Gotti III grew frustrated. As Floyd Mayweather challenged him, he challenged him back and began clinching more. This seemed to get on “Money's” nerves, so he stepped up the challenge. Before the sixth round of the bout, the referee warned that the fight would be stopped if the two men didn't calm down. They didn't, and the bout was ruled a no contest late in the sixth round.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather to rematch John Gotti III in exhibition bout
But John Gotti III didn't stop punching. After the fight was stopped, he walked around the referee and ganged up on Floyd Mayweather, which resulted in a full-scale brawl between the two sides. Brawls also broke out around the arena, bringing the exhibition bout to an eventful end.
Shortly after the no contest, the two men began discussions about a rematch. Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III was scheduled for Super Bowl weekend in February, but it never happened. However, as DAZN Boxing announced today, the fight will now take place in Mexico on August 24th.
As of now, it has not been confirmed if the fight will be an exhibition bout, but it is likely to be so. This is the second announcement for Floyd Mayweather in recent months. He was originally scheduled to face former opponent Victor Ortiz in Mexico later this year, but the bout was canceled. Instead, Mayweather will face John Gotti III again.
