Florida State football's spring season included four practices and one scrimmage.
The five-week spring practice concludes with the Spring Showcase at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, April 20th at 4 p.m.
Here are five players who stood out in the first two weeks of the spring season.
Brown has not only improved his game since last season, but he is also emerging as a leader. The red-shirted juniors have led by example and spoken up for guidance.
During 1-on-1, 7-on-7, and 11-on-11 practices, Brown disrupted the flow of the offense and got off to a great start in the secondary.
Brown had 53 tackles, two sacks and four pass breakups in 14 games last season. This number should improve this season.
Brown inspired his teammates with his loud, energetic play. Brown celebrates every time he or another defensive back records a pass breakup.
However, I will also offer words of encouragement when needed.
One standout moment was when wide receiver Vandrevious Jacobs, who was the intended target on an incomplete pass, became frustrated. Brown helped calm him down.
Norvell speaks highly of how much Brown loves this team and his teammates.
Lucas made an immediate impact in the transfer.
The former Indiana running back showed flashes on offense and special teams.
During a 7-on-7 practice where there was space to run, Lucas found his chances with vision and speed that impressed his teammates. He also showed the ability to break tackles and make long gains.
Last season with Lucas, he rushed for 275 yards and two touchdowns and had 572 punt return yards and one touchdown.
He's going to be a fun player to watch this season and should be a threat on special teams.
Azaleai Thomas, DB
The secondary has been dominant for the first two weeks, and much of that can be attributed to the rise of Thomas.
Norvell, who totaled 29 tackles and 10 PBUs as a sophomore, said he expects Thomas to take a leap forward this spring.
He was a big reason for the receivers' struggles early on, especially when pads were added to practice on March 21st.
While the receivers adjusted, Thomas and the secondary continued to attack relentlessly. Thomas credits his play to his mental focus and work ethic.
Thomas has a great chance to impress in the spring showcase and compete for a starting spot.
With the departures of Jarrian Jones, Renaldo Green and Hakeem Dent, Thomas has a chance to become a mainstay in the secondary.
As expected, and as expected, transferred DJ Uiagalelei has made a splash this spring. However, Glenn has shown growth and confidence since last season.
Last season, Glenn threw for just 229 yards, completing 19 of 51 attempts and no touchdowns. He had 22 yards rushing and a touchdown in a 66-13 win over Southern Miss.
After two weeks of spring practice, he has become more confident and comfortable and has shown a strong arm.
Uiagalelei favored long balls in practice, and Glenn followed suit. The pair also worked well together. Glenn said he helped Uiagalelei learn the playbook, and Uiagalelei offered Glenn advice from his own experience.
FSU's backup quarterbacks struggled after losing Jordan Travis to injury late last season. Considering Glenn's early form, the Seminoles should have a healthy and talented backup this season.
Darrion Williamson, WR
There are a lot of questions about the wide receiver room this offseason.
With Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson declaring for the NFL Draft, there are two major openings at the starting position.
Kentron Poitier and Malik Benson, a transfer from Alabama, are two likely candidates to start, but Williamson, a redshirt senior, has been mentioned.
Last season, he had nine receptions for 127 yards and one touchdown. He had a great start to the spring, making several impressive catches in one session.
Williamson is one of the most consistent receivers in practice. If this trend continues, he should be competing for a starting spot again this season.
